Overview

Al Tentacolo, nestled in the vibrant heart of Palermo's P.zza Vicerè Caracciolo, offers an authentic seafood experience that captures the essence of Sicilian coastal cuisine. This bustling restaurant brings the freshest catches directly to your table, emphasizing simple, expertly prepared dishes that celebrate the sea.

The main draw here is the seafood selection, especially the oysters, grilled octopus, and the mixed seafood fry that showcases an impressive variety of fish and shellfish. Diners handpick their seafood, which is then cooked to order—often fried or grilled—delivering a satisfying contrast of textures, from crispy fritto misto to tender, smoky prawns. The octopus, whether boiled or grilled, stands out with its robust flavor and careful preparation.

The atmosphere is lively and infused with local charm, featuring outdoor piazza seating that invites guests to soak in Palermo’s vibrant street life. While the service can feel a bit hurried or chaotic, it adds to the authentic and informal dining experience typical of neighborhood eateries rather than polished tourist spots. This setting appeals to food lovers seeking genuine Sicilian fare without pretense.

Although some minor service hiccups have been noted, such as occasional menu mix-ups and billing errors, the overall quality and freshness of the seafood maintain the restaurant’s strong reputation. The local draft beer and house wine complement the meal well, enhancing the enjoyment of each dish.

Al Tentacolo is ideal for adventurous diners and tourists alike who appreciate seafood in its purest form—fresh, flavorful, and simply prepared. Its location in Palermo’s lively piazza adds to the palpable sense of place, making it not only a meal but an experience deeply rooted in Sicilian culture and culinary tradition.

A wonderful place to spend an evening. They immediately fried fresh fish and seafood that we chose on the spot. What a fresh fried dish. It was delicious and crunchy. I took off one star from the rating as they made two minor mistakes in serving (they served an octopus dish that we didn't order) as well as calculating our bill (they included a price of the octopus dish. The local draft beer seems a bit pricey (EUR 10 for two glasses).

A must for tourists.:) The fish is fresh, weighed in front of you and you know the price immediately. We've eaten here several times and do not regret it. Once the prawns had some burns sticked to it from the grill (you can see it in the picture), which interfered with the taste, but overall it was very good!

Fun, loud, fast, chaotic! Outdoor piazza seating only. Mixed seafood fry was €21 +2 cover (fresh sesame bread) Large 66cl beer only €3! It can all be grilled too, which looked even better. Large grilled squid seems popular. Not a tourist trap. Most table neighbors were speaking Italian. Staff doesn't speak much English, unlike tourist based places.

You chose from the presented, mostly ready-to-eat food what you like - very nice. Vino de la casa was excellent!

We ordered half an octopus and three prawns, and they were fresh with a distinct smoky flavor from the grill. Everything tasted amazing. The waiter was very nice, making it a great dining experience overall. Just a heads up, they take an afternoon break and reopen at 6pm.

Yummy freshly prepared vegetables dishes at 5€ a plate. Followed by beautifully cooked fresh fish which you just point and choose and get a quote(25€ for two) The place has a lively feel to it even for an October lunchtime.
